Dear Customer, Thank you for purchasing our terrific Manifold Restoration Kit. You will do a better job if you first read the literature enclosed with the kit before doing any work. If you are repairing pitted areas only, no additional tools are required; if you are repairing a cracked manifold, you will need either a small motorized rotary tool with grinding or filing attachments or an electric drill with similar attachments. In many cases you may be able to do this work by hand with files, if such tools are not available. Before any work can be done, the manifold to be repaired must first be either sandblasted or wirebrushed thoroughly to eliminate all foreign matter and rust, which is not stable under high temperatures and thus must be removed. TO REPAIR CRACKS: 1. Using a small rotary tool or electric drill with grinding attachment, widen the crack to about 1/8”, making a V-groove in the casting. For extra strength, drill several small at each end of the groove sideways into the casting. 2. Mix the Fireseal 2000 according to directions on can and force it into the groove and into the drilled holes at each end. Build up the Fireseal slightly higher than the casting to allow for sanding later. 3. Let dry for 18 - 24 hours, or 48 hours if the ambient humidity is high. 4. Using a heat gun, hair dryer, or propane torch, heat the area gradually for about 10 minutes to achieve full cure before proceeding further. Remember, Fireseal 2000 is a water-based product, and all moisture must be removed before other coatings can be applied. 5. Sand with medium grit sandpaper or file as desired. TO REPAIR PITTING: 1. After mixing Fireseal thoroughly, spread evenly with spreader, filling rough, pitted areas. Smoothing with fingers, while wearing latex gloves enclosed, is also an effective way of spreading the Fireseal 2000. 2. Allow to dry 18 - 24 hours, after which you may want to do additional filling in some areas. The only limitation you must follow is to not build up the area more than 3/8”. 3. Heat area gradually as in 4 above. 4. Sand with medium grit paper or file as desired. 5. Apply POR-15 Heat Resistant Paint, following directions on can.
